The screen on my iPhone 5 has been pushed out along the left-hand side. No cracks and no loss of touch.
CoconutBattery shows a very diminished battery so battery swell is the likely suspect.
I'm wondering if the battery swell actually damages the screen (broken clips maybe?) or can the same screen be re-used after just replacing the battery?

Well,if it's an iPhone 5,it's only 32-bit processor. Your phone won't be able to update or download any new apps after ios11 public rollout,so if I where you,I would consider replacing the entire phone instead of repair it.

Apple replaces the entire phone for the cost of the battery. $80 plus tax.

I replaced two iPhone 5's in May.

This is the ONLY option open to you unless you want to replace the battery yourself.

And on that note, realize that with swelling batteries Apple sends those devices to a specialized facility with specialized tools to remove the battery. There is a risk for explosion of the battery when removing it.
