Me too. Technically, according to physics, whenever we touch something, we're not actually touching something. So the phone's screen always feels us 'touching' when we're almost touching, just sometimes, we can even be a bit farther away and still make that connection. :)

Just because other people are experiencing the same problem, it doesn’t mean it is OK and acceptable.
This problem is often referred to as ‘ghost touch’. Google it and do some research.
It is usually caused by a malfunction of the Digitiser component and usually once it starts it gets worse with time.

I’ve had it on my iPad 11 pro (it seems very common on that model) and it was replaced by Apple.
Unfortunately the replacement has also started showing the same problem, but so far it doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue.

If you find often asking yourself whether you might have touched the screen by mistake, chances are you didn’t and you should get your phone replaced while it is still under warranty.
There is no such thing as a screen detecting a touch when you are hovering over it. Either you touch it, or you don’t.

I believe i have had this happen also.

Yeah, I feel like my finger is just about to touch the screen while I’m scrolling and sometimes I don’t actually feel the touch but it scrolls/or clicks.

I’ve tried to replicate it a few times and it’s difficult, but it must be less than a millimeter away and registers a touch.

I never had this “issue” with my older iPhones and I’m wondering if it’s software or hardware related.

But you both are experiencing the same thing? Is it on the 13 Pro/13 Pro Max?

Yes on 13PM and other iPhones and iPads.

Are there still people still having the ghost touch issue? It started happening to me after the update to iOS 15.1.

Typically these are hardware problems (faulty digitiser), so I’d say yes, they are still having the problem.

The thing is that it very much depends on which app you are using.
For many apps you are unlikely to notice as a touch don’t really trigger anything, whereas for other (such as Twitter) any touch on the screen trigger an action, so you’ll notice more often.

Haven’t had this happen since I upgraded to 15.1. Maybe they tweaked the digitizer firmware.

I think it is unlikely. Indeed one guy two posts above started having the problem after 15.1
Probably all coincidental.

That said, If it were to happen on one of my devices out of warranty, the first thing I would try is to slow down the reaction to touch by a little bit and see whether it helps or not.
Settings/Accessibility/Touch/Touch Accommodations/Hold Duration

But under warranty there is no question... it is going back to Apple.

EDIT: I have just tried changing the Touch Duration and even at the lowest setting is driving me insane as it becomes too slow to react.

I haven't noticed recently, but it used to do this when I was browsing Imgur. I would hover a finger over a thumbnail and it would open the image.

Yes! I always thought it was a static discharge from my finger. I’ve had it happen to me on every phone since the 5c. I’m on 13 mini now, and it still happens from time to time.

Thought I had some kind of mutant powers ?

*in all actuality, though, it may just be our brains not registering the touch… we still touch the screen we just don’t consciously notice the sensation of touching the screen. Like a blind spot for touch.

Yes sometimes my 13 Pro does this. I think it has to do with room humidity and/or electric charge on the finger, and yeah sometimes I actually touched the screen but for some reason didn't felt it

Since installing iOS 15.1, it does so occasionally with SE (original) as well as XR, 13 Mini, and 13 Pro.

So it looks like iOS is faulty.

If you are experiencing the issue open a case with Apple Care or through Apple Feedback. Need to make sure Apple is aware of this issue. More people the better.

I’m glad it’s not just me having this issue, thought I was just being paranoid. My iPhone 13 Pro registers a touch sometimes when my finger is just above the screen so if I’m scrolling through messages for example, as the scrolling stops it will sometimes take me into the message under my thumb. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s enough to be annoying. Got an appointment at the Genius Bar on Saturday so fingers crossed. Not that they will have stock to exchange on the day!

I'm completely fine with mine. I much prefer a too responsive touch to a less responsive touch, which happens in many others
I agree that more responsive is better but it’s just too much for me. I’m even triggering siri Shortcuts on occasions turning lights etc on without wanting to. ??

Well that is unfortunate XD mine is fine 98% of the time

I have a 13 Pro Max and I feel like my screen randomly registers a touch when I’m very close to the screen (but don’t actually touch it).

Has anyone else noticed this behavior with their device?
The Force is strong with you, young Luke. Try keeping your free hand further away from the screen. Positive charge from hands or from clothing can trigger screen awaking. This time of year humidity plays a big part in electronic gizmos.
