Does screen sharing work over the Internet?

Does screen sharing (System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing and then using Finder's Connect to Server) work when the computers are on different networks? For example, if computer A is using Wifi in Texas and computer B is using Wifi in New York, will this still work?

If you use VPN or SSH forwarding / target PC has public IP, then yes, it works.. ( But you have to connect by IP or use dns-sd command to have bonjour over internet)
