Maybe this is a dumb question, but it seems on my system if the screensaver runs then the monitor sleeps, the screensaver is still running when i go to wake the monitor. does that mean its been running the whole time wasting cpu cycles and drawing more power than is necessary? you'd think it would stop. thanks for any input
 
Assuming that you're only having the display sleep and not the entire Mac, then yes, I believe that the Screen Saver would continue to run even if the display is sleeping. Screen Savers really serve no purpose on LCD displays other than making pretty pictures, the best thing you can do is just not use one and put the display to sleep.
