Because of the dual processor. I'd imagine In the future it'll be a must

Edit: will the 4s stay relevant longer when new iPhones come out rather than other models once a new iPhone is released

I was trying to type quickly before my next madden game started. I edited OP

iphone 5 was name iphone 4s , so no different 5 or 4s ,
shortcut iphone 4s because apple doesn't want everyyear jumping new number
so they can save it for long term ,

In the same way that any newer tech does, yes. Whether or not that's acceptable to you is an entirely different matter. Your call to make.

Trust me, when iPhone 5 is finally out, all the other phones will be instantly outdated and obsolete.

It's gonna be magical.

Probably, yeah. Just look how many iOS updates the 3GS has had compared to the original iPhone and iPhone 3G.

The performance jump from the 4 to 4S was very big, especially in terms of graphics. In fact, it's a bigger jump (in relative terms) than from the 3G to the 3GS.

Just read the entire thread, and I still have no clue what we're talking about. Did my brain forget the English language, or are people here not writing it?

The OP is asking whether the iPhone 4S will be as future-proof (for its time) as the 3GS has been (which has had iOS 3, 4 and 5 so far), or perhaps even better.

He's essentially asking for a comparison between the 3G to 3GS upgrade and the 4 to 4S upgrade. I reckon the 4 to 4S was a bigger jump, meaning that the 4S should be a very future-proof phone that'll see at least as many iOS versions as the 3GS has had.

iPhone 4S will be supported for at least three years (or three generations of iOS until iOS 8) with dual core CPUs in them.

but apple can decide other way.

mobile CPUs eventually will hit road block, performance will be hard surpass every year (like we already a have in laptop/desktop CPUs)

if you increase the performance then battery life gonna go down.

Agreed. The battery is what is the ball and chain in mobile phone technology. Everything else is advancing quite a bit but battery tech hasn't moved all that much. I would like to see the next iPhone battery use some of the same tech as the current MBP's.
