I have significantly more noise coming from the left side of my MBP, its a smooth 'fan' type noise, not whiny or grinding at all. But I use this machine for recording and need it to be quieter. Could I have an overly noisy HD or is this because it's a 7200? The right side has a very faint fan sound compare to the left.
Thanks.

Generally a 7200 RPM HD doesnt make more noise than a 5400 RPM. The difference really is the brand of HD you put in it. Seagate HDs tend to be a little more noisy than others while the Hitachi travelstar is less noisy.

Great thanks for the reply. Mine is a Seagate - Momentus ST9160823AS so I'm guessing that's the culprit. I will have to look into a fix for this!
