They both sounds the same to me while I'm using my iPhone, but the other end is a different story. My wife claims that she much prefers the connection when I call her on 3G.

She can easily tell when I'm on EDGE and complains that it's much harder to hear me.
 
Sorry, it is either GSM or 3G. Of these two, 3G is clearly the best for voice data.

EDGE is a bolt-on protocol for GSM networks to handle data faster.
 
3G is better than GSM, however it also depends on the other person. If they have a GSM phone, then there's really no difference in using 3G or GSM (except no buzz).

It's like outputting a YouTube video in HD...doesn't do much.
 
When i talk to my roommate (we both have 3g iphones) the quality is really nice. I'm not sure how the quality is for people without 3g though.

Regardless, I forgot about that GSM buzz. I kind of miss knowing, ahead of time (like 2 secs), of someone calling me from that buzz.

My girlfriend say the exact same thing. Volume is the same on my end though...
