Does the early 2011 Macbook Pro not support 1TB SSDs?

I just received a Samsung EVO 1TB ssd, installed it in my early 2011 macbook pro, and it doesn't recognize it. I previously (and now resorted back to) used a samsung 840 500GB ssd which worked great.

Has anyone successfully added 1TB of SSD to a 2011 macbook?
