Hi there,

I want to buy an Apple AirPort Express (www.apple.com/airportexpress/) because i want internet on my Apple G4 PPC Digital Audio (Tiger (10.4.11)) which is upstairs (and our modem is downstairs). But the only thing is that i do not have an AirPort Card or any other receiver. I searched on the internet for a receiver and i found the Edimax EW-7718Un (http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pl1_id=1&pl2_id=44&pl3_id=124&pd_id=223). I have also downloaded the software for the Ralink RT2870 Chipset which is in the Edimax (http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Macintosh.html) (It works, it's no virus).

Can somebody tell me if this combination works, or do i need an airport card (if yes, where to buy it), or do i need an other wireless access point like the Edimax BR-6504n (http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pl1_id=3&pl2_id=18&pl3_id=123&pd_id=222)

Thnx,
Thijsiez

airport is just apple's fancy name for 802.11 or wi-fi.
Any 802.11 card will work. Just make sure you're getting the flavor (B/G or N) that you want, and that the card has drivers for whatever machine you're using it for.

I've never heard of Edimax, and would personally go for a more well known brand.
