Does the folder with a ? mark at start-up signify anything other than a missing OS?

I was just wondering if the problem could be remedied by restoring/reinstalling the OS. The computer is an iBook 1.33 ghz I believe.

Okay thanks, so it seems the OS needs to be reinstalled and if it doesn't work the hard drive must be shot.

Yea, at worst the hard drive is ruined.
