Does the iPhone 3G have any issues with older iPod USB sync cables?

i use the one that came with my ipod mini, with a real strain releif on the end, and it works fine

I'm using one of my older ones. I think I have about 5 of them situated all over my house and my office so I'm never without a charger.

Why did they remove the strain relief on the end with the new iPods and iPhone anyway? I always feel weird just yanking it out.
