I’m at Popeyes the free wife doesn’t even show the guest login screen, I’ve been to a few places where this happens often the iPhone doesn’t have that sthenticarion text that android gives you.

Mine is set NOT to prompt me when it identifies an available public network, but it sees them normally. I connected to the Apple Store WiFi instantly when I chose it.

I was wondering why I could not use the Apple Store Shopping App to check out with the items I had gathered the other day. Turns out you need to be on their in-store WiFi to do so. Once I connected I could tell my phone to remember that network and connect automatically. Worked flawlessly the next day when I went back for more.

I think starting with certain version of iOS (forgot which one), iOS started to give warnings about insecure networks.

If a login page is not appearing, it could also mean the hotspot is not configured properly.

Either way, I would avoid insecure wifi public hotspots whenever I can.

In my experience both sides have problems connecting to public wifi often because public wifi is overloaded and all the available IPs are used. Having just travelled for work this last week, definitely the case at the airports, a few restaurants... though the hotel was absolutely amazing :p. Usually one has to sit there after receiving an IP to wait for the authentication page to come up - and sometimes I never get it.

And the other posters are spot on. If you're on public wifi, use a VPN!
