Does the iphone save ANY login info at all?

some sites even say.... "Remember me on this iphone" when you login...

having to login every time really, really slows down the browsing experience

That is up to how the websites handles remembering. Cookies are stored on the iPhone, however there are other ways that people choose to handel remembering your login session. IP addresses, etc...
