An individual interested in purchasing my iPod docking stereo system is wondering if his iPhone will work in it. I've been using my iPod Touch in it just fine, so the iPhone should work fine as well, correct? The iPhone has the same docking connector as the Touch, right?

yes, it will work but you "should" use a dock adapter too, because the phone will fit without it but if it is not being supported by the dock and only by the connector it is putting too much stress on the dock connector which is not good for the phone or dock

You can but every time you connect your iPhone it will give you a message

"This accessory is not made to work with iPhone.
Would you like to turn on Airplane Mode to reduce audio interference? You will not be able to make or receive calls."

Excellent. Does the iPhone come with a dock adapter? I know that other iPods do. The stereo came with dock adapters, but I lost them. Regardless, none of them fit the Touch, so I assume none would have fit the iPhone either.

Thanks. One last question:

Does anyone know if the iPhone is comparable in size (width and thickness) to any previous iPods? The stereo comes with dock adapters, and it would be nice if they fit the iPhone rather than having to buy new ones (plus, they're black and will match the stereo).

The dock adapters that it comes with are intended for the following:

iPod 20GB
iPod 40GB
iPod 60GB
iPod Video 30GB
iPod Video 60GB
iPod Mini
iPod Nano (pre-3rd generation)
iPod Photo 30GB

If it makes any difference, one of the docks did fit a Classic 80GB that I used to have. Though, I couldn't find one that fit my Touch with the case on it (it was too thick with the case).

the problem with the new iphone is that it has a curved back, whereas all the ipods have a generally flat back, only slightly curved on the edges. as for comparable thickness im not sure, but again you can check the tech specs of all the ipods. now you can always put the iphone in the dock with the closest fitting adapter or no adapter at all, and it will stay it, but it may stress the connector as the only thing holding it up is the dock port

Thanks. Official Apple dock is what I'll recommend then.
