Sometimes what's on paper doesn't say everything.

Like one could have better lens than the other.

It has been stated that the Iphone 8 speakers are louder than the Iphone 7 with a little more bass. Hopefully it will be the same for the X.

The X has OIS on both rear cameras (the 8 doesn’t have it on the wide angle lens) and the front facing camera supports portrait mode thanks to all the sensors in the notch.

I want to talk about the mics for a second. If the X records video in mono, that would be plain sad for a $1000 phone. Hopefully the 8 & 8 plus are the last phones Apple releases with mono recording. These are life memories we're recording. Stereo sound should be as important as the video quality. We're watching these on TV with A/V receivers.

You recording with a tiny microphone, even with stereo you don't really have much distance between the mics - physics is working against you!

If you are after a good, clean, audio track similar to professionally produced material then you really need an external shotgun mic - lots of options available across various price points and they make a massive difference:

The camera should be a fair bit better as it's 2.4 with OIS against 2.8 with no OIS on the 8 Plus
The f/2.4 - f/2.8 difference is a half a stop of light, not a huge difference, but the OIS will add the ability for the shutter speeds to be slower, theoretically. It all depends on the end users technique.

Slower speeds using a telephoto lens are not something I want with my 400mm lens on my DSLR, even if it has good OIS. Generally, faster shutter speeds are wanted for clarity, detail and freezing action.

I'm just talking about on the fly life recording. You won't always have a rig and who wants to carry extras. Might as well have a real camera if you don't mind carrying extras. HTC & LG phones have great mics capable of recording concerts and the separation is great.

Regarding the speakers, That would be a difficult assessment to make, as no one here has tested iPhone X to actually know the differences. After November 3, you will have your answer.

I think this goes back to if those critics who were on the floor with hands-on with those devices, they should have tried to test that function and stuck it in a hands on article about impressions. We the consumer should not have to wait for a product launch to do that when these media/event attendees should have had enough hands on time to get the kinds of information us consumers care about.

Hard to test speaker volume and clarity in a large, crowded, loud room.

I compared my iPhone X to to my 8 Plus and 9 Plus, and it seems like the 5 is better.

Seriously, we don't have the X yet so nobody knows except for some Apple employees.

Partially false, the 8 and 8 Plus have OIS on the wide angle lens, the 8 Plus doesn’t have OIS on the telephoto lens.

The 5 has no OIS at all. Your eyes are tricking you if you think the 5 takes better photos than the others.

I wonder if there is some measurement tech you can plug into a headphone jack and measure total audio decibels so crowded loud rooms don't matter.

Critics basically spent no time with the iPhone 8 during the event, so they couldn't have done real comparisons

And even if there were headphone jack, how would BYPASSING the speakers help you ASSESS the speakers?

Nokia made hd audio recordings with tiny microphones already five years ago. I suppose other manufacturers have not reached that audio quality level yet.

the camera on the X has OIS in the telephoto lens where the telephoto lens in the iPhone 8 does not so essentially the camera is better on the X, the speakers are identical i'd say.
