Does the MBP 15" (non-unibody) use a slim DVD drive or the ultra slim?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2.5GHz (Penryn) model.

I pulled a super drive from a 17" (A1229) MBP but it's the larger version. Never the less, it still kinda fits in my 15" MBP. Hmmm.... Bad Idea?

if it fits then it wont hurt. i believe they both support 12.7mm drives.

While we're at it, do they make drives capable of writing 8x dual layer?
