Someone has offered to buy my MBP 17" Late 2011.
I will truly miss it, since I do love the 17" screen, but I am sick & tired of the GPU failing.
Now looking on Craigslist (taking the necessary precautions to avoid stolen items), I found a MBP 15" Mid 2012 which is only $100 more than what I am selling my MBP 17" Late 2011 for.
I have previously given my sister a MBP 15" Mid 2012 and it has served her well for the last 3 years, but I do see that Apple has listed this model as also affected by the GPU issue: https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/
So my question is this: How widespread is the GPU issues in the MBP 15" Mid 2012?
I don't see nearly as many complains about the GPU failing in this model as I do in the 2011 model, so I am assuming the problem is not nearly as widespread.
