There's a metal part in the nike watch sports band that keeps the band in place. That metal part sticks out. If I'm using a MacBook that's space grey, will the metal part scratch the space grey coating off? I would like to know if it will or not (a yes or no answer). I also don't plan to adjust the way I position my wrists such that they won't make contact with the palm area.

I'm assuming you're talking about the pin in the short side of the band that goes through the hole to secure the band in place. I don't have first hand experience with a Space Grey model but I can say that none of the bands has caused markings of any sort on my silver MacBook. If you're that concerned, you could always get a sport loop as there are no metal pieces in the band.

Does your wrist sit on top of the palm area next to the trackpad?

I can tell you from first hand experience that it doesn’t. At least, it hasn’t scratched mine in over a year.

On my MacBook Air I can see a tiny smudge type area where that pin rests. Not a scratch as such but discolouration for sure.
