Does the version of .mac matter?

Hi,

I just bought a new imac 24". I want to order .mac for me and my kids. I found people selling .mac 4.0 for cheaper than 5.0. Does it matter which version I buy? Isn't it just a subscription?

Also, for me and my two kids to each have our own website, do I need to buy the family license?

I believe that yes, you would need a family subscription.
