I've been using a mish-mash of different offline storage-backup solutions, but I'd really like to centralize things if possible. I have my music collection archived on Google Drive, and that's fine. I've been less happy with Crashplan; it sometimes backs up my stuff and sometimes doesn't, and it insists on running constantly when I don't really need constant backup. iCloud is great for uploading/downloading files between my Mini and my Air, but it doesn't support folder/directory transfer as far as I can tell.
So here's what I want. Does it exist?....
I'm not sure if there's a do-it-all solution for these features; I suppose Dropbox comes as close as anything else, but it's had its share of security scares over the years. What do you recommend?

- Cloud-based directories and folders that don't have to be re-created from scratch; in other words, I drag a nested folder to it, and it retains its folder/sub-folder/file structure)
- Option of file backup/duplication on one or more local HDs
- Ability to open and work on Mac files as usual, instead of downloading them first or relying on "cloud versions" of the applications
- Secure, permission-based access to specific files or folders
- Manual-only backup or "sync on demand" option, instead of automated backups
