Im trying to hook up my iphone in my truck and play video onto my screen. my screen has rca inputs. is there anything i can get to hook the iphone up but still be able to charge it at the same time without having to run a power inverter? I bought a cord today at best buy that looks like this
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...99&productId=1218009789158&defurl=false&h=387
but it would not work with my iphone so i returned it (i knew i wouldnt be able to charge while watching video with this one).
Any suggestions?

i think apple sells a connector that connects to the 30 pin port. not sure if they still make it. i will take a look im sure someone makes one.

You need this...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129LL/B

The universal doc does not support the composite video out (3 RCA connectors, 1 for video and 2 for left and right audio), only component (5 RCA connectors, 3 cable RGB and 2 for left and right audio).

So just get the cable I listed above and it "should" work in your car.

johnstone,
that looks like what i need but i am still left with the dilemma of how to charge my phone while watching a movie in the truck. on a long trip i dont want to watch play half a movie, unplug the cord, charge my phone for however long, then hook it back up and watch the rest of the movie.

You're watching a movie while you're driving? Or is the movie for the kids?

no kids, but for friends, yes. or if somebody else is driving and im watching

That cable also has a usb coming out of it - get a lighter port/USB thing for your truck. bada boom

I was at auto zone the other day and they had a lighter adapter that had USB, sounds like just what you need.

well that sounds like the set up for me. i just hate to pay $50 for that cable. has anybody had any luck with an aftermarket one with the 3g or 3gs

You run the risk of getting a dud or a poor quality cable.
Get the Apple cable and you won't be disappointed.
Anything aftermarket of decent quality will be priced similarly.
And I forgot to mention as others have pointed out, the USB plug will allow you to charge the phone while a video is playing.
Just get a USB power adapter for your cigarette lighter.

I've seen cables with a headphone sized jack that has an extra ring on it for the video. not sure if this works with the iphone though since that's used for the mic input on hands free. won't charge the iphone either, but if it works it's probably the cheapest option

OP, go with the one cello has. it works with any ipod, and like someone else said it has a usb port to charge so you just need a cigarette lighter adapter to usb. it is a great strong cable and I use it with all my ipods/iphones and it works great

a bit pricey but you know it should support most future ipods/iphones because it is from apple
