My desktop periodically freezes (The icons become unclickable).

I've tried fixing permissions, but no dice. I'd like to do a clean install of Leopard now, but I'm wondering if time machine will backup whatever files are causing the problem.

Do any of you guys happen to know if TM would do that??

Well since you do not know what is causing the issue and TM isn't magic, it'll back up everything and possibly the culprit of the freeze ups.

No, your problems probably won't carry through across a Time Machine restore because they are likely based in the system files that Time Machine doesn't back up. You ought to be able to achieve the same effect by running an archive & install with the installer set to preserve user and network settings.

If the problem persists, well, you're no worse off. We can take a look at you at that point.
