Hey all, I don't post over here much. My wife has an iphone 7 so she is stuck on ios 15.7. If she were to get an Apple watch 7 and upgrade to watch os9, will she need a new phone?

if The watch is synced with the iPhone 7, she won’t even be able to upgrade the watch to watchOS9
so, yes: watchOS 9 does require iOS 16. If the watch is updated, it can’t sync with iOS 15 anymore.
to be Noted: the opposite is not true. An iphone on iOS 16 can be synced with previous versions of watchOS
