iOS 1.1.1 improved the volume of the original iPhone, so I'm curious as to whether or not watchOS 2 does the same thing for the watch. Does it? I really hope so, because the speaker is not loud enough, not even enough to be used as an alarm clock (which would greatly hinder the usefulness of nightstand mode, for me anyway).

I actually think so.
 
I haven't noticed a difference. At least speakerphone volume seems the same as before (only usable in a quiet environment). The rest of the time I keep it at nearly the lowest volume for my alarm and it still wakes me up.
