I'm guessing this isn't a new feature?

I'll be listening to something on YouTube, then for sometimes in the middle of the video the computer will fade into black for like .5 seconds then resume right away.

Almost like a brief pause...

I have had this a couple of times, the machines goes to sleep mode for some seconds and wakes up again...

Strange, any idea why this is happening?

Exactly! I have no clue. I thought maybe it's a new feature.

Like maybe it got too hot or something and needed a break lol.

Now I'm concerned though I mean this thing is brand new no refurb and it's like day 3...

Are you watching full-screen?

No just in the window.

It's ok though hasn't done it today although I haven't used it much.

About to use it more tonight. I'll update on the latest if it happens again or doesn't happen again.
[doublepost=1489445200][/doublepost]Btw, it doesn't bother me. I just hope it isn't a sign of something more in the future. It's hardly a real world convenience for me at this point.

Your description makes it sound like the computer detected an external display (that usually happens when you first plug in a display). Do you have a second display or other devices connected that might be confusing it? Airplay?

No I don't have a second display connected or Airplay, but yes you're right that it is EXACTLY what it looks like - when a macbook detects an external display.

That's EXACTLY what it looks like!!! That extremely brief fade into black, then it comes back.

I have an external display connected through a USB-C hub and this is also what I suspect causes this behaviour...

Just happened again. It's not like detecting an external display. It actually locks the computer, I have to wake it up and unlock again.

Magnetic interference at the lid closure sensor? Not sure where is the magnetic sensor for MBP2016.
I know my old MBP2011 sometimes like going to sleep when I put my phone at the bottom corner.
