Does your iMac re-connect to WiFi when the connection drops? I want to know if this is a ‘feature’ or I have a problem somewhere.

Whenever my iMac drops it’s WiFi it never automatically re-connects. The drop can be caused by a router reboot or just a random drop. Then my iMac keeps scanning for networks without ever actually re-connecting. This has persisted through several versions of macOS. The option to connect to known WiFi networks is enabled.

I have tried resetting network settings. Any idea if and how I can solve this?

Both of my 2016 and 2018 MBP with Touch Bar both drop connection on a daily basis (yeah that sucks given my gf's 2015 MBA always has strong connection)and never reconnect by themselves. They will just keep searching or doing nothing and just leave the Wi-Fi icon on the status bar grayed out.

My 2013 iMac never drops a single connection though.

That’s interesting. Perhaps not re-connecting is a ‘feature’.
