I love reading the forums, and although I don't post very often here, I have a few thoughts on the reviews of the MacBook Air.

I've been using Max for about 16 years now. Most of my work involves video, audio, visual content creation. That being said, the MacBook Air is not the best machine for those tasks. But I bought mine knowing that that's not what I'm using it for.

So far when looking at reviews of the MacBook Air it seems as though people want the machine to do the most for what it is. At the same time I don't think the machine was really made for that. If you wanna video editing graphics powerhouse, that's what the MacBook Pro seems to be made for. This isn't meant to shame anyone who helps to do the most with their MacBook Air, but rather point out the difference in use case.

As a hardware industrial designer by training, sometimes products are purpose built, and I think the MacBook Air is one of those purpose built products for mobility over productivity.

I own a 16 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro for when I need to do heavier lifting, as well as the Mac Pro for other purposes. The MacBook Air is slots nicely into my workflow whenever I do have to travel, review work, and gift presentations. I think it does those specific tasks much better than my 16 inch MacBook Pro could ever do at the weight and size of that machine. What I mean is that the MacBook Air is the ultimate travel machine for me

Now, I know not everyone can have multiple machines for different use cases, but I can say that this is a most delightful experience for travel. I'm using the a gigabyte 512 combo, which I gather is somewhat weird based on the reviews that I've read and watched. Still, I haven't noticed any major slowdown or issues. The only thing I have notice is that this machine won't quit. The battery life is insane. When traveling, the extra weight does make a difference, as well does the extra size of some thing like the 16 inch MacBook Pro. If I have to travel with the pro that's totally fine too, but the air does most of what I need to do.

Additionally, for creative work if I need an extra screen, I have an iPad Pro that I can set up as a secondary display or even a drawing tablet. I don't feel as though I am personally missing out on much.

In short, I think it does what it does best and better than any other Apple machine seems to be able to do at the same size/weight. It's certainly not a powerhouse, but it's crazy efficient and well-suited for those who like to travel and be productive.
