Hi forum,
I got last Saturday my new MacBook Pro 15 2018. It is the stock version with 2.6 GHz and 512 GB SSD. Switching from Windows to MacOS.
Now I need to start dongle life. I read about interferences in the range of 2.4 GHz emitted during USB communication with external periphery that affect in turn 2.4 GHz wifi connections. The presence of interference suggests a lack of shielding.
Do you know who messed the shielding up? Was it Apple or were it the accessory manufacturers? Are the 2018 models still affected? What has been changed between 2017 and 2018 models? Hardware and/or software?
Are dongles or docks out there that do not affect 2.4 GHz wifi connections? Could you recommend one?
I am looking for a dongle or dock with the following features with decreasing importance:
1. DisplayPort 1.2 (4k at 60 Hz).
2. Power delivery to the MacBook.
3. USB A port(s) (nostalgia)
4. Card reader.
5. Cable between the dongle or dock and the MacBook in order to reduce mechanical stress on the ports of the MacBook.
I found Belkin's Thunderbolt 3 Express-HD-Dock. But I do not know if it has the interference issue and 350 € (in Germany) are a lot of money.
Thanks for your help and best regards,
Oliver
