When I first got my MBP I bought a cheap £5 eBay USB-C to Ethernet adapter and, to be fair it does a great job. I get good speeds at work when Wifi is appalling and unusable. If I bought a real 'Thunderbolt' interface to Ethernet, would I get much more from it?
I've also got an HP USB-C to HDMI / USB A / Power throughput adapter. It's terrible. Brand new, under two months old and every morning when I plug my Mac in it's plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable until it works. Sometimes it will adjust the Macs resolution with no difference on the other end... Rarely, it works as should. I'm going to file a warranty claim with HP. I was concerned also that the USB-C and non actual 'Thunderbolt' interface might be struggling to render a 1080p signal AND USB (keyboard and mouse microdongle) AND power? Quite annoying.
So it's time for newer, better adapters. I've avoided it long enough. Now I need something powerful.
There's all sorts of weird and wonderful dongles - all priced premium - and if HP is anything to go by, then cheaping out isn't wise. I need it to perform every time, well.
How powerful is Thunderbolt C?
Can I get one, £100 ish adapter that'll competently handle Ethernet, HDMI, USB A, Power IN etc all through the one port? Is it worth paying for that extra power of Thunderbolt and not jut USB C? Who makes good adapters... Time to go Dongle Shopping. Your recommendations appreciated
