guys im going to start a petition to save Ping! there are some of who love it and use it daily!

id like to see a raise of hands who is in with me?!

this is what steve would of wanted :apple:
 
Apple has been very lucky. Ping is one of very few complete failures. They didn't get as much criticism over it, like some companies would. It's already dead, just waiting to be buried. Nothing can save it, and that's the good news.
 
Ping was actually a great idea...it was just two years too late. By the time it was launched, people were already embedded in more all encompassing social networks. Thus, they didn't want to deal with it.

Baking in FaceBook or Twitter are much better solutions.

Ping was Apple trying to avoid another "Google" situation with Facebook. But, Google is Facebook's enemy too now, and Facebook hasn't turned out to be a threat to Apple's interests (yet), so Apple and them are getting closer. Ping was a failure, and simply isn't needed anymore.
 
If Ping had been built as a sort of "last.fm" type of thing, it could have done very well. But as it is, it's basically just advertising disguised as a "social network"…there are really no compelling features. The only thing you do is tell your friends "Buy this song!"

I disabled my Ping in the parental controls then corrupted the .nib files for Ping. Burn it.

It was Steve's idea in the first place, but I doubt anyone would hold onto such an unpopular feature.

Now quit saying "This is what Steve would want!", fanboys.
 
I say do kill ping and give Last.FM some love like facebook and twitter got.

We can use a more successful platform to do the same thing and then have auto-scrobbling built in to the music app.

Yeah honestly, I don't care what songs my friends are buying. They all buy trash anyway. And why can't the iTunes Store sell lossless audio files instead of compressed stuff?

Still on the plus side all Ping users will be invited to a personnel tour of Apple with Tim Cook and afterwards he'll show them how follow bands on twitter.
