Just a day or two ago I started having this new problem with my macbook that I can't diagnose. I first noticed it when I tried to open a pdf in preview. The preview icon appears but it keeps bouncing up and down on the dock and never opens. I have to force quit in order to close it. Then I notice that thumbnails on finder don't show. I open disk utility to see if there is a problem with my hard drive, but all the window shows is loading disks and nothing shows up. I have to force quit disk utility to close it. Plus, my mac won't shut down or restart normally. I have to do a forced restart or shutdown. When the mac boots up again, everything is fine. The problem seems to develop after a couple hours of use. I have had to force restart my computer at least twice now. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I'll provide screenshots when the problems arise again.

I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with 512 GB SSD and 16GB Ram running El Capitan.
