The stylized interface is very nice. There is a slightly unmatched look with the full-color photographs.

With highly stylized looks, it is often hard to mix in newer media or items that won't generally fit the look.

If you need the full-color photos, perhaps they can be tinted to look like old-style sepia photos that when tapped on reveal their full-color look. Then the photos would become a big part of the interface and style, without generally reducing the quality and color of your photos.

What is the purpose of the app? A learning tool? Reference to lookup? Entertainment?

After looking at the iTunes listing for your app, as a quick reference I'd make sure the information is quickly accessible and available. If a user is going to simply browse and learn the information then a process to 'walk through your information' may be a good step to guide the user through the material. Often the end-use determines the best way for how the interface looks, feels and operates.
