don't sync iPhone calendar

Hello. I have an iPhone 3gs and I was wondering whether it was possible to create a calendar on the phone and not sync it with iCal on the Mac, or not? I know it is possible to do it the opposite way (create an iCal calendar and not sync it with the iPhone).
