Don't want iPad apps to sync to iPhone

I transferred my purchases from iPad to computer and backed it up. Now when I sync my iPhone, it installs all the apps from my iPad, which I DON'T want on my iPhone. How can you prevent this? Unchecking them is out of the question, because that'll erase them from my iPad as well.
