This sometimes works but most times doesn't in Chrome. I'm running version 15.0.874.106

Is anyone else having this? I would love to find a solution. Is it a problem on Apple's side like the issue with control + scroll to zoom in and out which they fixed or is it a problem with Chrome? Anyone know what to do?

Sorry to be of no help to you but I repeat this question for Preview where it never works. Right-click and look up in dictionary works.

Before Lion I would just use space+command to get spotlight and paste it there but I was hoping that with Lion this would work everywhere but it doesn't. It's better than having to open the dictionary app and it's faster and smoother when it does actually work

AFAIK the three finger tap works only for Cocoa apps. I don't use Chrome, so I don't know if Chrome is built using Cocoa. But this shouldn't be the case for Preview, which is a Cocoa app.

But the right-click -> look up in dictionary in Preview doesn't open the Dictionary app. It opens the same popover window that 3-finger tap does.

BTW, do you select the word before you do the 3-finger tap?

No I just double tap over it. It still seems to work on and off. Any news from google if they plan on getting this to work all the time or maybe it's just my mac?

Chrome is built using Cocoa, but the implementation for dictionary is half-baked. You have to click the word, then three-finger tap on it.

Chrome dictionary

Yep that's a great chrome extension!!!

As for preview - the 3 finger tap look up just dosen't seem to work???
