Hello!
When I use the volume slider in Sound Settings:
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is this a bug in macOS , something specific to the Magic Mouse, or intentional? Is there a way to make the sound feedback single (like with the Trackpad)?
I should also mention that this issue is not new to macOS 26 – I’ve noticed the same double sound behavior in earlier versions of macOS as well.
Additionally, I sometimes observe another strange bug: when I right-click with the Magic Mouse, instead of opening the usual context menu, it occasionally opens the Trash and prompts me to empty it.
Problem description:
I noticed a strange behavior in macOS 26 when adjusting the system volume. When I use the volume slider in Sound Settings:
- If I move or click the slider with the Trackpad → I hear a single sound (normal feedback).
- If I do the same with the Apple Magic Mouse → every movement or click on the slider produces a double sound(like a double “pop”).
Additional details:
- Using the hardware volume keys (F11/F12) plays only a single sound.
- Disabling the option “Play feedback when volume is changed” removes the sound completely, but then there’s no feedback at all.
- It seems the NSSlider in Sound Settings sends two events when using the Magic Mouse, while with the Trackpad it only sends one.
