I updated to 2.02 recently and since then my data performance REALLY sucks

Now I have a hard time getting any 3g signals at all where i used to get full bars... in my home and at work for example.

Is there anyway to revert back to 2.01?

Try full restore.

I would suggest to perform a full restore and then restore your settings from your latest backup. I had some choppiness after upgrade, but these steps made my iPhone normal again.

As for downgrade - there is no way, period. Unless you are going to enjoy your iPhone as an iPod touch. Nobody figured out yet how to force modem firmware downgrade.

that's great news. what i don't understand is why doesn't Apple just tell everyone what they did instead of having us to rely on AT&T? it would definitely "ease" the flaming by some users :p

Probably because they thought that most users don't fully understand the nuances of 3G, and would have thought the explanation was "absurd."
