I'm considering downgrading my macbook pro 2017 13" (16gb, i7 3.5) to 2019 13" (16gb, 1.4) Base model.

I will be loosing 2 TB ports, and a second cooler.

I'm a developer, I run VMs, more cores seem like a better deal. But I'm afraid for single cooler, since macs are not that great thermally.

Any thoughts?

You'll be going from a dual core CPU to a quad core CPU. The 1.4 is slightly faster in single core and obviously will spank the 3.5 in multicore.

You will get slower wifi, possibly slower graphics and SSD. And as you said, fewer ports.

Yeah, I went with 2.4 model, there was a refurb at the same price point as new 1.4 with 16gb, no brainer.
