Long story short, house was broken into, the jerks stole me and my husbands MacBooks, we never up graded from Leopard to Snow Leopard, so we should be replacing our macs soon, and they will have Lion on them. We have a time capsule with both our backups on it. I'm not sure if I can backup from an old os to the new one. So can you downgrade that far.

The Lion installer will be able to use the Leopard Time Machine backups. The new Macbook Pros will not be able to run Leopard.

The new MBP's cannot run leopard, but your time machine backups should work.
