iPod touch Downgrade iPod Touch 2g from 3.0? [not a typical downgrade question]

Me and a friend of mine are working on an app for the App Store, and I'm needing to install the newest beta firmware on his second gen iPod Touch so that he can do some beta testing. If the firmware proves to be too buggy for his likes, is it as simple as putting the iPod into DFU and restoring to 2.2.1 like with the first gen iPhone and iPod Touch or is the second gen different?
