So I had an SSD in my macbook pro and it kept corrupting so I just threw it out because I was sick of reinstalling the OS every day. So I then put in a 1TB 5400rpm drive and installed high sierra onto it. The speeds of hard drives are really slow so I was wondering how I could get el capitan onto it to make it a little bit faster. Also I just like el capitan over high sierra. The original os on the drive is high sierra and I dont have el cap in my purchased tab. So I dont know how I would get it. I used to have a 2008 macbook with el cap but I never logged into the app store in the whole time I owned it so el cap never went into my purchased tab. And the hard drive that was in that laptop is gone and so is the laptop. So im wondering if there is a way to get el capitan installed onto a drive even though I dont have it purchased or have a mac with it installed.

On several models of MacBook Pros, the disk cable is very prone to failure, which often only shows up as problems with SSDs. The cables are inexpensive and easy to replace. What model computer do you have?

I already got rid of the SSD though because I was sick of it

To help El Captain install more RAM, so it will reduce its dependency of the Disk

what Im asking is if theres a way for me to get el cap onto my computer without the app store
The only “legal” way you can do this is by first erasing your drive on your Mac. Then you can reinstall the OS that cake with the computer. i.e. whichever OS was the current one during the mid 2010 MBP reign. After resintalling the original. (Which is probably something like Lion or earlier) then you will be able to subsequently upgrade to El Capitan and anything newer if you do desire. I will also provide you with some links on how to do this step by step. Only do this if you have backed up your data or are okay with losing it all. This process is 100% legal too. If that makes any difference or serves as consolation. Let me know if you have any questions or you need me to explain anything. Good luck!

This indeed sounds like a faulty hard drive cable.

Changing the OS IS NOT going to "fix things".

If you want the old speed back, put ANOTHER SSD into it.

Not really much more to say about this.

Can't say for sure but you may also have had a firmware update along the way that may make running EC impossible.

TBH just replace the cable and install another SSD, way better result.
