I want to downgrade my iPod firmware from 2.0 back to 1.1.4 (for jailbreaking purposes, of course). I know how to downgrade it, but I was wondering if I can keep the 2.0 firmware when I downgrade (or at least some record that I paid for it so I can download it again without purchasing it a second time). I believe there are ways to install 2.0 at a lesser cost (*ahem* free), which wouldn't be so bad as you've already paid for it. Or, Apple may keep track of the fact that you bought 2.0 and not make you pay. Your third option would be to use Pwnage on your touch so you can keep it 2.0 and jailbreak.

So I got this iphone for 150.00 from my friends mom, and i went to unlock it but the version is set at 2.0. Does anyone know the easiest way to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4? Also When I tried it went to the screen where I have to plug into iTunes. Someone said I have to take it to a apple store now? If I do will they know I tried to jail break it?

if it came presinstalled then it will. i have an 8gb which came with the Jan. update and i downgraded from 2.0 to 1.1.4 and i still and i still had the apps.

in regards to your unlock question, if the iPhone you got off your friend's mum is a 1st gen ipod you can still unlock it under 2.0 via winpwn or pwnage tool...... just so you know
So can you put your iPod into DFU and then restore it with this firmware? (Like when you use Pwnage)
