Hello,

My iPhone 3Gs went crazy and i had no choice but to restore it (Several freezes, i was sometimes unable to slide the lock when incoming phone call, loooong time to boot, etc ... )

It is now in 4.3.5 and I jailbroke it using redsnow
Cydia says its SHSH iOS 4.1, 4.2.1+, 4.2b3, 4.3.5 are saved.

Can i downgrade it in order to be able to unlock it ?
What iOS version ? How ?

I downloaded the ipsw files for 4.3.2, 4.2.1 and 4.1.

If the downgrade is possible, will the jailbreak be an untethered one ?

Thank you very much

You can downgrade to any firmware that you have SHSH saved for. You either need to change your host files (there's a ton of guides on that) or the easiest way is to download TinyUmbrella. This will allow you to downgrade your firmware. 4.3.3 and everything below that is untethered. If you have an old baseband 3Gs all firmware versions are untethered including 4.3.5.

However, you can NOT downgrade your baseband. The only way you'll be able to unlock now is by installing the iPad baseband. This will cause you to lose GPS functionality.

The phone's baseband is : 05.16.02

If i downgrade to 4.1 or 4.3 will it be untethered ?

Thank you very much for your answers !

The baseband is not unlockable so in order to unlock you will have to install the ipad baseband. And lose your GSP function.
Also you can only downgrade to firmware versions you have shsh's for.
Just what you have listed on top of cydia.
You can go to 4.2.1 and have an untethered JB. you wont be able to go to 4.3.3 cause you dont have shsh for that.

Yes, as I said anything under 4.3.3 is untethered for all devices. However, you will not be able to unlock unless you flash to the iPad baseband 6.15.00 which is not recommended. Unfortunately, that's your only option if you need an unlocked device.

Alright
Thanks to both of you !

So i'll go to 4.2.1

I don't have a data plan so the iphone's only network function i use is the wifi when i'm at home. So no big deal i guess

What does the GPS functions provide ?

I would go with 4.3.2. It's the newest SHSH you have that is jailbreakable.

If you want unlocked you'll need iPad baseband.

I had the SHSH blobs for 4.1 saved for a family member’s 3GS, but was unable to downgrade it from 4.3.5 to 4.1. I kept getting various errors (20 and 1600 if not others), but nothing I could do (using TU, editing host file, etc.) allowed me to ever get this to work. They’re on 5.16.02. Makes me wonder if downgrading is going to be done deal for my iPhone 4, if I ever had to use my blobs. Any idea what happened with the 3GS?

Aggie, I found that I was getting error 20 when i was trying to restore not in DFU mode. I found that odd that I needed to be in DFU to do a restore in iTunes with a changed host file, but it worked for me xP

Goodluck

A couple things to remember. Remember to use TU pull blobs from cydia.
Make sure to close skype and itunes, then run the TSS server, then open itunes again and restore in DFU.

I did all that and more, but it never worked. Couldn’t downgrade.
