I'm downgrading back to 10.6 from lion for several reasons, which don't really matter anyway. I've backed up all my important files and I'm ready to delete erase my drive, but... When I try and boot from the Snow Leopard CD it just sits at the startup screen (Grey screen w/ apple) and doesn't go to the installation page. My disk is fine, no major scratches, it reads fine when put into the computer when it is on.

I've tried using both option and c when booting up. C immediately starts the disk which one should expect, option allows me to select it. But they both have the same result. Grey screen, apple logo, no pin wheel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You are probably using a version of SL that is earlier than what your computer's model accepts. Check this out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186 and check this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159 to see which version you need.

In most cases, if you are using a retail SL disk, that version of SL is too early for most machines circa late 2010 and 2011.

I had the same issue as you - tried to downgrade to SL from a lion shipped machine - my SL disk wouldn't work - searched online - and realized I need to install at least 10.6.6.

Welp, I feel like a dunce. I didn't even think to grab my re-install disk that my computer came with. I just grabbed the SL disk that I bought for my iMac.

Thank you for the quick response :]
