I'm trying to downgrade from ios 5 to 4.3.5, but itunes keeps giving me the error that my device isn't eligible for requested build. Isn't 4.3.5 still supported by Apple?

Apple ceased signing 4.3.5 on Monday or Tuesday I believe.
Unless you'd saved your SHSH blobs, I'm not sure you can go back now.
This is correct. I was just trying to save my friend Iphone4 4.3.5 blob via TU on Monday 10/17 and TU was informing that Apple has stopped signing 4.3.5.
