I have an iPhone 3g that was unlocked and jailbroken on firmware 4.2.1.

After experiencing some memory issues, I decided to restore it back to factory settings, or at least 3.1.3, but Itunes declared error 1015.

I can no longer contact the guy who jailbroke the phone for me, thus I have not saved any SHSH blobs nor know what my baseband was before the phone entered the Spinning Wheel of Death (SWOD) stage. Now it either has the apple logo or it’s in recovery mode.
I’ve tried putting it into DFU mode and then using RedSn0w to jailbreak it again, but that didn’t get very far before it went back to SWOD.
I also downloaded Tiny Umbrella but that didn't solve anything.

Despite all this mess, is there any way possible to save the phone?
If so, is anyone willing enough to help me? Thanks.
