I have had my iBook G4 14" 1.2 ghz 256 mb 60 GB for three years. When I first bought it, I considered getting a 12" powerbook instead (they were about the same price). Now I have decided that I would much rather have something smaller to accomodate my traveling, and particularly with higher RAM. I will probably be getting a new 15" within the next year though I would like to retain something light for travel.

I have noticed that despite having smaller screens, hard drives and slower CPUs, the powerbooks for sale (on ebay) seem to be priced higher than I would be able to sell my iBook for. Are these prices heavily based on RAM and build? I am also supposing that the 12" powerbook prices may be currently inflated because it is the 'missing' size from the apple line-up currently.

Having said this, would a 867 ghz/768 MB powerbook be as fast as my ibook? Or a 1 ghz 640 MB? Can I compare these models in this way, or is the powerbook simply always better than the ibook when build quality and style is considered? Like I said, I will likely be purchasing a new laptop within the next year, so I don't want to spend tons of money on this but it is beginning to look like my computer is of lesser value than any 12" powerbooks or even some 12" ibooks.

Sorry for the verbose questions, but I am basically not sure how to properly gauge the values of the different models and don't know if the extra $200-$300 (plus my computer's selling value, I am guessing $200) will be worth it. Thanks.
