It is not possible to downgrade the firmware.

Where do you have this information from? Surely folks at Apple store must have some proprietary tools to do that. "It is just software!" :)

I'm not aware of any 3rd-party flashing utilities, and you would also need an original image of the firmware you're MBP shipped with. The one you linked to is not for your model. May I ask why you seek to downgrade your firmware?
 
You cant downgrade. I have a feeling you updated your firmware to 1.7 to resolve an sata-II support issue but you cant use your 3rd party hdd because it keeps freezing on your 15"/13" mbp?

This is why I returned my 15" 2.8GHz mbp 2 weeks ago and picked up the 17" which doesnt have this issue. :)

I am having problems with me UB MBP 17" recognizing G.Skill SSD drive installed in MCETech optibay in place of DVD drive. Mac OS X installer just doesn't see it although Mac OS X installed on the factory Apple SSD sees it just fine after booting.
