downlaoding music not from itunes

What is the best site to use for downloading music to my macbook pro without using itunes. I have tried to use rhapsody, but was unsuccessful. I am not a fan of itunes, but would love to be able to download music to my computer without paying 1.99$ per song.

This. Amazon MP3 is terrific, and the quality I believe is slightly higher than iTunes (I know this used to be true, don't know if it still is). Overall, nothing negative at all about amazon really.

256 kbps AAC is slightly better than 256 kbps MP3. Still, Amazon has lots of sales.
