Download 4.0.1 Update Without Plugging in iPhone?

Is there a way to force iTunes to download the updated iPhone firmware without actually plugging in an iPhone? The reason I ask is that I won't be home for another couple of hours and I'd love to have the update downloading in the meantime. I can remote desktop onto my home Mac, so I thought I'd get the download started.

Is it possible?

You can download the update using a browser, and then use iTunes to install it:

http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-8619.20100715.4Pnsx/iPhone3,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw

(That link is for the iPhone 4, if you have another model, pick the correct link on this site: http://ios.e-lite.org/)

This is a little unofficial, so you might have some problems doing it that way (just a warning).

It only took me 10 minutes to download earlier today, so it shouldn't be a big deal to just start when you get home...
